Devin's Photo Op

Babies are so photogenic. Especially Devin. I am a little biased. So I've been experimenting with lighting, backgrounds, and very cute outfits. Little boys are so much fun!

Days Never to Be Forgotten

Oh!!! What wonderful days! Sleepy smiles, tiny hands that are learning to grasp our fingers, chubby cheeks-so fun to kiss, sweet cuddling with mom and dad, nights with 7 1/2 hours of sleep in a row!!!! Expressions that can't get any cuter! Lots of grunts, groans, a and mom and dad learning to distinguish which cry means what. I am sure that he focused on my face yesterday and turned his head to watch me this morning. Legs that kick, kick, kick-especially during diaper changes-not his favorite.

Devin poses after getting his hair washed. He also displays his special talent of opening one eye really big.

Grandma Bjarnason came to visit for a week. They have a special bond!

Devin loves bathing...maybe!

He enjoyed his New Years outfit. He was very excited that he arrived in time to wear it.

Grandma and Grandpa Rader welcome Devin at the hospital. Congratulations Grandparents!

Devin's arrival

Here is Devin's story: Tues. Dec. 22 at our doctor's appointment, the doctor told me that I was dilated to almost a 2 and he gave me a 50% chance of going into labor before my following appointment. Yeah! That was exciting news! Christmas morning, I woke up about 5:00 am when the contractions started. I had one or two contractions an hour all day long. In the evening we sat down to watch a movie with Bryce's parents. I spent the first half of the movie rolling around on a PT ball. Midway through the movie, the contractions started coming more frequently, so I sat by Bryce on the couch and had him time them. They were coming three minutes apart. After an hour, I mentioned that we'd had an hour of contractions that were three minutes apart and his mom leaned over and said, "Don't you think it's time you went to the hospital."
That kicked us into gear. We hurried home where my bags were waiting and his were yet to be packed. He quickly grabbed some items and we headed over to Renown. I was so worried that the nurses would turn us away because I wasn't screaming in pain and we walked in pretty nonchalantly, except for the occasional pause so I could hold onto the rail through a contraction. Not to fear!
We were checked in and I was dilated to a 3. The doctor was called and suggested that I walk for an hour. That was my goal. If I could walk and move around to 11:30, then I would get an epidural. I am no martyr. At 11:30 on the dot, we called the nurse to say we were ready. It took a little longer to get the epidural and I felt like I was able to fully appreciate the strength of my contractions by the time the medicine kicked in.
At 2:30 I was dilated to a 4 and when the nurse checked on me again at 5:30 am, I was dilated to a 7. An hour lated I was at an 8, the nurses had a shift change and my doctor was called. He arrived about 8:00 am and when he checked me, he said that I was fully dilated. He broke my water and I started pushing at 8:30 ish. I started pushing as the epidural was wearing off and I was able to feel the contractions coming, but not their full strength. Yeah!! The nurse said that I pushed for 59 min. and Devin was born!! Bryce got to cut his umbilical cord.
What a precious time! We are so grateful to have Devin in our family! He has added joy to our happiness.

Catching up on the summer, Part 2

Sorry, these are a little out of order! We got a mountain of tomatoes and learned how to use our new water bath canner. Very neat!

We used pint jars. Too small! Next time we'll use quart.

Jenny and fam came to visit! We had them over for Family Home Evening with Mom and Dad one night. Bryce's lesson was on Nephi's faith and the story of his bow and arrow. For his activity they crafted a homemade bow and arrow and practiced shooting "dinner", my stuffed bear! Here Dad is demonstrating how to "notch" the bow.

My dear friend gave me a lei to celebrate our baby boy! Beautiful!

These are also out of order! We hiked the Sierra Buttes.

There is a grated walkway that goes around the building. On three sides, there is mountain beneath, but on the fourth, there isn't much. This picture is looking over the edge of the walkway.

Here are the steep stairs up to the building.

The weekend we came home, we packed our bags and headed out to hike the Sierra Buttes. After dinner we went on a short hike. We got to see the sunset. The top picture is Sat morning's sunrise. We saw it as we started hiking.

While Bryce went to Sacramento to take the CA bar, I went home and visited with my family!
Pregnant cousins! So cool!

Getting Caught up on the Summer Part 1- Horne Fam Reunion

Over July 4th I went to a Horne (my mom's side) reunion. How fun to see my cousins and their children!

Editor's note: Notice the lack of pictures of my better half. He did not get to come to the reunion and spent much of his summer studying for yet another bar exam. Cross your fingers!

We went to a ranch in the middle of Utah and stayed in a huge lodge. There were many activities, such as horse back riding.
