Catching up on the summer, Part 2

Sorry, these are a little out of order! We got a mountain of tomatoes and learned how to use our new water bath canner. Very neat!

We used pint jars. Too small! Next time we'll use quart.

Jenny and fam came to visit! We had them over for Family Home Evening with Mom and Dad one night. Bryce's lesson was on Nephi's faith and the story of his bow and arrow. For his activity they crafted a homemade bow and arrow and practiced shooting "dinner", my stuffed bear! Here Dad is demonstrating how to "notch" the bow.

My dear friend gave me a lei to celebrate our baby boy! Beautiful!

These are also out of order! We hiked the Sierra Buttes.

There is a grated walkway that goes around the building. On three sides, there is mountain beneath, but on the fourth, there isn't much. This picture is looking over the edge of the walkway.

Here are the steep stairs up to the building.

The weekend we came home, we packed our bags and headed out to hike the Sierra Buttes. After dinner we went on a short hike. We got to see the sunset. The top picture is Sat morning's sunrise. We saw it as we started hiking.

While Bryce went to Sacramento to take the CA bar, I went home and visited with my family!
Pregnant cousins! So cool!

Getting Caught up on the Summer Part 1- Horne Fam Reunion

Over July 4th I went to a Horne (my mom's side) reunion. How fun to see my cousins and their children!

Editor's note: Notice the lack of pictures of my better half. He did not get to come to the reunion and spent much of his summer studying for yet another bar exam. Cross your fingers!

We went to a ranch in the middle of Utah and stayed in a huge lodge. There were many activities, such as horse back riding.

Family Fun

We always take a family picture to share with posterity. Here is behind the scenes.

Our family took advantage and posed for the camera.

After family pictures, we decided on an outdoor excursion down to the lake to use the canoes and paddle boats. At this point, the heavens decided to open up and shower us with their waters. Dad was the only one in our family courageous enough to brave the elements.

The rest of us stayed in the car and posed for the camera. What else to do? Eventually the rain stopped and we all went to join Dad.

When the rains decided to bless us again, we hopped back into the car and went for a ride through scenic Utah and snap pictures of wildflowers. What family bonding! There is a circumstance that happened here that would take much too long to explain and probably bore the reader, but in a nutshell, I learned a little about being a mother to be and emotions that change instantaneously. So much fun!

More Fam Fun

One of our favorite activities was archery. Any chance we could get, we would wander down and pull out our bows and arrows.

Bulls-Eye! Their fingers are pointing to how many they got, out of five.

Another nostalgic experience was snow cones. Is it possible to capture just how red one's tongue can be?

First cousins once removed are sooooo cute!

OK, These cooks were amazing. At a very delicate time in my life when cooking food had absolutely no appeal, they stepped in and saved the day. How amazing to simply walk into the dining hall and have many delectable aromas from which I could choose something to sit down and eat immediately without smelling them in the making. Need I emphasize the depth of my affection for these two?

After the Reunion...

When I got home from the reunion, we got to harvest our first zucchini. Truly exhilarating. Not quite the same feelings we have at the end of the summer harvest.

I have always enjoyed fam visits to the beach. However I have never had the experience of sunbathing in relatively warm weather with the sun shining. Oh how fun is Lake Tahoe. We took our yw and they are all in the waves except this one. Actually she is a yw to be.

One of our activities was to dress up, learn the art of etiquette and enjoy being a lady...a much needed practice in today's society I dare say. We don't always have to be dainty, but how wonderful that we can dress up, employ our creativity, and enjoy being a woman!!! Being ladylike is a habit I will be engaged in forevermore, I'm sure. :)

Water Fun

Each year, the stake takes the youth on a waterski/tubing trip. I went up with some of our kids. Needless to say, I did NOT waterski or tube, but it sure was nice to sit in the boat!

Baby Rader is a...

And my action shot picture. It was better than when I posed! :)
